Director of Music

Mr. Michael Watkin

Michael first became known to the Campbelltown Camden District Band back in the 1980’s when he followed family members in to the ranks to learn saxophone at the age of 10. It was during his time spent with the CCDB that Michael would begin his musical journey that would ultimately lead to his musical career.

Since this time, Michael has gone on to graduate from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with under-graduate and post-graduate degrees in music.

During his musical journey, Michael has been actively involved and recorded with many musical groups of various genres, toured with bands both locally and internationally as well as a part time lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Michael has also gained a variety of experience conducting ensembles including concert band / wind orchestras, symphonic orchestras, marching bands, chamber groups, small jazz combos, rock / funk bands, big bands, theatre pit orchestras, saxophone orchestras as well as performing solo work.

Michael’s love of music is extended to the teaching of students in the local area, both in schools and privately at his music studio, which he has carried out for the past 15 years.
