Band Mascot

"Cam" - the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo
Concert Cam A competition was held,in late 1999, to design a mascot for the Band. The winning entry was designed and drawn by the Michele & Rachel Berthold.

The information below was included with their entry, to explain their choice of the mascot.

Concert Cam
Concert Cam
The natural colours of this mascot are the same as our band (black and red). It is also a native Australian bird, unique to our country. It is easily adapted to fit different uniforms, ie. Concert, Marching, Bavarian, Dixieland, etc

It's name "Cam" represents both Cam-pbelltown and Cam-den.

Concert Cam
Concert Cam Fittingly, the Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo's habits include:
  • "the cockatoos are found in pairs, family groups or small parties made of several families"
  • "in some areas, its arrival is healded by rain"
  • "the bird's attractive appearance has made it a pleasing sight to many people"
  • "like many inland birds they are only seasonally present in some areas ... whereas in others they are resident throughout the year"
  • "they are reported to take nectar"
Unfortunately, and quite unlike ourselves, the bird's voice sounds like a "loud harsh grating kree or krurr.
