Marching Band Information Sheet
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS FOR THE GUIDANCE OF INTENDING MEMBERS
- The Marching Band and Flag Squad are formed by drawing players from
the Senior Concert Band and selected members from the training groups.
- Training members are allowed to participate in the Marching Band
before they are eligible to graduate to the Senior Band.
- 1st year through to 4th year students are encouraged to attend
marching pratice with the opportunity of joining the Flag Squad or
carrying the band banner.
- 2nd year to 4th year students are also able to try out for the
Marching Band.
- Students do not gain automatic promotion into either the Flag
Squad or the Marching Band. It is only granted to those members
who, through regular attendance to practices and improvement in
marching ability, have demonstrated their readiness for promotion.
- Students who have entered the Marching Band will not be issued
with music initially. They will be provided a card with mace
commands on it. This is disigned to allow the students time to
master the art of marching in a formation without the distraction
of trying to play at the same time.
- The issuing of music to the students for marching is at the
discretion of the Drum Major or the Section Leader for that
Instrument (see Senior Members page for
Section Leader details)
- Regular attendance at “practices” and “playouts” is essential
if the Band is to maintain a steady rate of improvement.
- Since the Band participates in many Civic functions and other
activities, a high standard of behavior and appearance is expected at
all times. For members to attend, the full uniform (Summer or Winter)
MUST be worn at these “playouts”.
