Campbelltown Camden District Band Inc.
Drum Major
Craig Swallow started playing cornet in the Band's learners group in 1974, at the age of 11.
Craig advanced into the Senior Band in time to play with the Band at its last contest as a
brass band.
He has played euphonium and BBb Bass with the junior band to round out these
sections during contesting.
Craig was elevated to the 1st Trumpet section in 1976. In 1981 he was promoted to Principal Trumpet,
a position he still holds.
Craig and his wife Kathy (Principal Flautist), have the distinction of being the first couple
to be married (1983), where both partners were active members of the Campbelltown Camden District Band. The Band provided a surprise guard
of honour outside the church, and a small dance band group played at the reception.
In 1996, at the Band's 50th Anniversary Dinner, Craig was one of four players to receive a special one off award for 20 years of
continuous service with the Band.
The following year Craig was awarded with Life Membership of the Campbelltown Camden District Band.
In 1997, Craig fulfilled a dream of becoming the Band's Drum Major, after admiring the job Stan
Newham did for so many years. Craig has led the Band in many parades including:
- Fishers Ghost Parade (Campbelltown)
- St. Patricks Day Parade (Sydney)
- Canberra Festival (Canberra)
- Australia Day Parade (Camden)
- ANZAC Day Parades (Campbelltown, Camden, Queen Victoria Hospital, Thirlmere)
- Olympic Parade (Wollongong)
Craig was the driving force behind the creation of the Bands web site in 1998 and is still maintaining it as Webmaster.
In 1999, Craig was appointed Secretary of the Band.
