Day 7 - Tue 3rd July by Michele and Rachel
Most amazingly, 38 very tired, droopy eyed people made it to the bus in the square, at a time almost considered as a sleep in: 8am. Our destination for a morning sight seeing tour was Milan, a city remarkably like Melbourne due to all the trams running everywhere. In the matter of a few hours we saw the main sights of Milan, and by the end of it knew exactly how a Japanese tour group must feel. Castello Storzesco, covered with thousands of scaffolding holes, included a one metre race through the museum, stopping only to catch your breath at Michelangelo’s last work, an unfinished sculpture.
From there we dodged a few more trams before coming up to the amazing Duomo - one of the largest gothic churches in the world. All but one remembered not to wear singlets, but I guess Paul, that the outside was actually more spectacular than the darkened interior.
Another Olympic race was held through the Emanuele Galleria, where if you happened to glance down at where your feet were treading, you would have seen some super mosaic floorwork. The La Scala Opera House were holding opera rehearsals, but though the actual opera hall was closed, some sneaky people found out that by using the toilets, you could stand by the doors and listen to the glorious singing.
We were all entertained by ‘Allo ‘Allo on the way home and it finished with perfect timing as we arrived at Piazza Umberto. The whole band met again at 6pm for dinner and concert at Lurago d‘Erba. There was a competition on the bus between the three 20 year olds for the last Besana medal. David Griffin won with this fine piece of Italian poetry:
