We packed the bus and left Rothenburg 10 minutes early. Wow, first time. Soon after leaving a music quiz was circulated around the bus, answering questions from small "snippets" from an audio tape. Out of 50, scores ranged from 2 to 20 something. Michele needs to get a musical taste transplant!
We stopped at Heidelberg Castle for lunch, where we disposed of more of our tourism dollar. We checked out the large wine keg (45,000 litres), and the discovery of a 220,000 litre keg meant that the first one was only a small one.
Latest news about Andrew (Peter) Stewart is that he has been transferred to Munich, and is stable in intensive care with pneumonia.
Approaching Marburg, a welcoming convoy met us, with Australian flags flying. This set the mood for the evening festivities. We were greeted with "schnapps" and our billets; to return from "freshening up" to a welcoming party.
To break the ice, the jazz band played whilst catching up with old friends. It only seemed like yesterday, not 2 years ago, since we had seen our German friends.
Some of us competed in a "mini-Olympics", where 4 teams of 8 contestants balanced water on their heads, crawled through a tunnel, pulled on some tights, popped a balloon, ran around some witches hats etc.
We saw first hand German humour, a group singing "a round" using musical names, playing "the samba" with volunteer percussion players, and watching a theatrical presentation of "It happens every year" with a butler and a lady.
An excellent day, and night. The signs of things to come!
