This day began bright and sunny, with much anticipation. We are leaving Luzern for Bad Tölz, and on route will be travelling through Leichtenstein and a tiny part of Austria.
The trip was initially uneventful, but this soon changed when we were stopped at the border of Leichtenstein and Austria. Everyone was asked to produce their passports and mild panic ensued when it was found that one was missing. After lengthy negotiations with the border police, we were eventually allowed to pass.
The end result of this, was that we had to skip lunch in an effort to reach Neuschwanstein castle in time for our 3:00pm tour.
We reached the castle with just enough time to make it to the top of the hill with 10 mins to spare, to catch our breath.
Everyone stood patiently waiting for Michele to arrive with the tickets. A very stressed Michele arrived, quite red in the face, with only seconds to spare. Three cheers for Michele and all her helpers!! Hip Hip Hooray.
After our tour through the castle, we decided to try and reach the bridge that we had seen from the castle window. With a lot of huffing and puffing, we dragged ourselves up the nearly vertical path to the bridge. WOW!! What a view - well worth the effort, as you will see from the photo of the day.
After all that exercise, we decided to take the easy way down, and joined Jenny, Louise and Lauren on a horse and carriage ride back down again (nearly running over a few strange people in maroon shirts in the process!!)
Finally we arrived in Bad Tölz after a very long day and all "threw" our bags in our room (literally), before having to front for dinner at the "Ratskeller". Once the initial confusion regarding the veal versus pork, was sorted out, we all enjoyed a hearty, well earned meal!!
